  • Introduction

    Protective coatings technology is often regarded as one of the most crucial parts of the aviation manufacturing. To achieve the enduring performance of insulation, wear resistance, high-temperature corrosive resistance, abradable seal, we often specially produce protective and functional coatings on the surfaces of aircrafts’ components via methods of surface engineering. Coatings for aviation field have been increasingly developing in these few decades and it currently includes thermal barrier coatings (TBCs), environmental barrier coatings (EBC) for protection of ultra high-temperature composites (C/C, C/SiC, SiC/SiC, etc), high-temperature abrasive sealing coatings, WC-Co cemented carbide coatings, etc. These protective coatings with superior performance are usually produced by physical vapor deposition and thermal spray processes. Generally, thermal spray methods often embrace plasma spray (atmospheric plasma spray (APS), vapor plasma spray (VPS), low pressure plasma spray (LPPS), suspension plasma spray (SPS)), high velocity oxygen/air fuel (HVO/AF) and cold spray, and the physical vapor deposition usually has electron beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) and plasma spray physical vapor deposition (PS-PVD). Thus, the excellent performance, high reliability, economic and high service life of the aviation products are considerably enhanced by using producing coatings on the components. The new emerging materials and technology of coatings can give impetus to save the natural resources, reduce the emissions of hazardous substance and promote environmentally friendly green manufacturing.
    Those submitted papers regarding novel deposition methods of Suspension Plasma Spray, PS-PVD, AC- HVAF, would be particularly welcomed.

    Manuscripts can be submitted until the expiry of the deadline. Submissions must be previously unpublished and may not be under consideration elsewhere.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal and will be listed together on the special issue website.
